Vitality North London Half Marathon

Alex Walker has volunteered for African Vision Malawi in Malawi before.  Now he’s chosen to fundraise for us – thank you, Alex!

Here’s what he has to say about it:

“On Sunday 20th March 2016 I will be running the Vitality North London Half Marathon which finishes the 13.1 mile route INSIDE the iconic Wembley Stadium- creating what has to be The Greatest Finish Line in the World! Incorporating Saracens’ Allianz Park at the half-way point, this is the ultimate Stadium to Stadium Half Marathon!”

10 Ways to Support African Vision Malawi

There are so many ways you can support African Vision Malawi!

Here are some of the possibilities:

Buy a Biogas Cow
Repair a windscreen
University scholarships
Pre-school partnerships
Goats, nets and boreholes
Old laptops and cameras
Donate monthly
Easy Fundraise
Volunteer
Gift a legacy

  • We are building a sustainable biogas digester. Buy a Biogas Cow to be a part of our herd!

  • Donate £100 to repair our minibus windscreen. We use the minibus as the only form of transport available to take our disability patients to appointments in Lilongwe. With the rainy season now underway there is unfortunately every possibility that the windscreen will shatter soon.
Jennifa

  • Sponsor a university or further education student. Students who have completed our secondary school scholarship programme are now studying Teaching, Nursing, Languages and Journalism. £40 a month will help support them. Read more here.

  • Do you know any UK pre-schools who would like to partner a Malawian pre-school in our area?
    Email us if so!

  • Buy a goat, mosquito net or borehole for Malawi in our Store. Ideal feel-good birthday gift!

  • Do you have an old laptop or camera you could donate to us? We are always in need of laptops for the Lilongwe office and our sponsored University Students. If your laptop is less than 5 years old, we can gladly take it off your hands. We also need cameras so that we can record project progress for Monitoring and Evaluation and to report back to funders on the spending and impact of their funds. Mobile phones which have chargers and are unblocked are very useful too. Email us if you can help!
  • Set up a monthly donation to support any and all of our work.

  • Sign up to Easy Fundraising. Online stores (including Amazon, EBay, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose….) donate a percentage of your shopping spend to African Vision Malawi at no extra cost to you.

  • We are looking for Fundraisers, accountancy and office help in the UK. Are any of those positions right for you? Read more here.

  • Pledge a gift to celebrate your birthday or wedding. Maybe leave a legacy in your will. Read more here.

Can you help us in any of these ways? Thank you!

Alex is running the North London Half Marathon for us!

21 year old Alex Walker has signed up to run the Vitality North London Half Marathon for us on Sunday 20th March!

That’s 13.1 miles, and it’s his first time running a half marathon.  The finish line is in Wembley Stadium, which sounds like it will be quite something!  Good luck, Alex, and thank you for choosing us.

If you’d like to sponsor Alex, his fundraising page is here.

A Child Is Born Campaign Update

We are so pleased to be nearing the £15,000 target we set ourselves for A Child Is Born, our campaign to build a Waiting Home at the M’bang’ombe maternity unit.

As of today we have raised £13,940 !

In addition, a kind donor has agreed to match-fund all donations up to the £15,000 target, so that figure is actually worth £27,880 to the expectant mothers and unborn children of our focus area.

Can you donate to bring us up to the target we need to meet?

Baby in the Maternity Unit

The rate of premature births in Malawi is a global high of 18.1% and this has a massive knock-on effect to the mortality rate of Under 5’s.  Our Waiting Home will provide beds for mothers just before they go into labour, nutritional advice and medical advice.

Click here to read all about the Waiting Home project.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to everybody who has contributed towards this project so far!  You can follow us on Facebook to get all the very latest news.

Can you donate to help us raise that final £1,060 ?

Over £1000 raised at Celebration Exhibition

This evening’s Celebration Exhibition at the cornerHOUSE raised over £1000!

Thank you to all of you who supported the evening.  The £1000+ goes to our projects with orphans and vulnerable people in Malawi.

Gifts, Christmas cards, 2016 calendars and artwork were all on sale.

The artwork and calendars were created by Graphic Design students from Kingston College.  Here’s Josh Bullen with his artwork “Early Years Education”, which sold on the evening.  The artwork for the calendars is very striking and very impressive work from the students.
